Returning to an exhibition: Urban Lament
A route through the exhibition record, individual works and press footage.
Start with the archive
Urban Lament / Kentsel Ağıt took place at Galerie D’Art La Visione in Istanbul in March–April 2026. Its dossier now offers a route between works, published coverage and video records. Each shows something different: an artwork photograph brings the surface closer, while an exhibition view shows works brought together in a room.
Looking together
Point of No Return and Storm Frequency place strong red and blue areas beside pale spaces. Urban Requiem concentrates instead on a narrower tonal range and dark vertical forms. Moving between these paintings draws attention to different surface relationships, rather than reducing the exhibition to one dominant colour.
The Colour, surface, layers selection continues this comparison through six works arranged in three pairs. Begin by finding a shared feature, then look for the difference. A similar dark mark can carry a different weight against a pale surface or a saturated field of colour.
Report, interview, painting
In the interview published by DHA, Özlem Zerey discusses her relationship with Istanbul and the layers, colours and emotions she works with. Reading it allows you to compare your own observations with the artist’s account.
Video records are available in the exhibition dossier. When a work catches your attention in a brief shot, open its portfolio entry to examine the catalogue details and available images. The archive can then become a way of returning to a painting, as well as a record of a past event.
